Round Pen Bliss

June 12, 2011

Life is vigorous here in the Big Lost River Valley.  Tim’s horse, Sonata, got her hoof bandage off and now has a protective plate bolted to her shoe.  She is galloping all over the place out there, feeling great.  It was a stellar day, topped off with homemade pizza, a cold beer, and a stunning sunset.  We have been using Dorrance’s book  True Horsemanship through Feel.  His approach to training the young horse is nothing short of miraculous.  We have worked on the first 4 principles this week as we waited for the round pen to arrive by truck.

There was just enough breeze to keep the mosquitos down the day it came.  We met the truck out by the mail boxes and two neighbors happened by.  We had all the panels unloaded in no time and soon, Tim and I were putting the pen together.  After a million measurements, we got the thing together in a symmetrical circle.  We stood in the round pen and marveled once again at this place we live in.  After raking up loose rocks and clipping down the remnants of sage brush stubs, we were ready to introduce our horses.  My super smart and willing Two Feathers is a dreamboat.  She understands exactly what I want and tries her hardest to give it to me.  So goes another few days living my dream life.
